This book introduces the rich heritage of the Sikhs in Punjab through Coins and Sikh Religious Tokens. Future books will show case the heritage of the Sikhs through Medals awarded, Stamps issued by countries world wide and Artwork.

From the very first known coins issued by Baba Banda Singh Bahadur in 1711, to the last Sikh Coins issued by Maharaja Duleep Singh in early 1849, one can follow the glorious rise and the heart wrencing fall of the Sikh Empire. The Gold Mohurs, Silver Rupees and Copper Paisas have been well documented with numerous new unlisted types and varieties.

The coinage of the CIS-Sutlej States of Buria, Faridkot, Jind, Kaithal, Kalsia, Kapurthala, Maler Kotla, Nabha and Patiala have also been included. Numerous unlisted dates and varieties, accompanied with photographs where available, have been depicted to show the legends.

Sikh Religious Tokens (Temple Tokens), Commemorative Tokens and Modern Commemorative Coins issued in India as well as  other Countries, augment this book.

This is a very useful and detailed reference, for those who may desire to delve into a different aspect of Sikh history, through Numismatics, and in the future through Philately, Exonumia and Military Memorabilia. More then 50 years of research work has gone into this publication, taking 10 years to author and publish. Many references and old collections were viewed for this book to come to light. This is the first Sikh Numismatic book that has printed all the ACTUAL photographs of Sikh Coins for ALL the mints.

Copper coins and Gold Mohurs was the least documented section of the Sikh Numismatics. This book brings to light this important piece of coinage history for more research. Copper Coins especially were the common trading tool for majority of the people, followed by Silver coins. Gold coins were issued to high ranking officials or royalty, hence very limited are observed.

As always, many new discouveries will continue to appear and there will also be some corrections and amendments to this book that may be required as we all continue to learn. I will create a page to include new findings and amendments for the benefit of the Sikh Numismatics.

As an author, I would suggest that all new collectors dive into the hobby with this Sikh Numismatic book in hand as a priority before spending a single dollar on any Sikh Coin purchase. Knowledge is Power and we hope the knowledge provided by this new Sikh Coin Book will empower you to grow and expand this hobby further.

Happy Collecting.
